The one finds ways to ease others' living burdens

Recalling her past years when there was no community service in Texas, Tola Marinez has kept a self-promise to seek more and more ways to ease others’ living burdens.

With that passion in her heart, she has been volunteering with nonprofits for 24 years and has recently been spending most of her time at the Community Food Bank, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Her daily job is to help the food bank staff with office work such as receiving phone calls, greeting visitors, checking in clients, managing the warehouse, etc.

When asked about her experience with the food bank, Tola expresses her heartfelt enjoyment of helping as many people in need as possible. Helping others makes her feel good about her contribution to the community. She, an ordinary individual in society, once thought that she had no ability and power to change the world.

Getting involved in the Community Food Bank, however, has taught her that she does not need to do big things to better society. Every small, good deed helps others so much. It is now Tola’s pleasure to share her knowledge that we can do anything to help the Community Food Bank. We not only experience the fun of helping people in hardship, but also reward ourselves with the self-actualization that we are caring for the community.
