Your First Visit to Community Food Bank: What to Expect
Walking into a food bank for the first time can feel overwhelming. You might have questions about what to bring, where to go, or if you even qualify for help. At Community Food Bank, we want to replace that anxiety with confidence. We have designed our process to be fast, personal, and respectful so that you can get the groceries you need and get back to your day.
If you are planning your first visit to our Galvez Avenue location, here is a simple step by step guide on what to expect.
1. No Zip Code Restrictions
The most important thing to know is that we serve everyone. Unlike many other pantries, we do not have zip code restrictions. Whether you live around the corner or across North Texas, our doors are open to you.
2. What to Bring
To keep our process as simple as possible, you only need to bring one thing: a photo ID. We do not require utility bills, proof of income, or complicated paperwork. Please have your ID ready when you arrive to help our team serve you quickly.
3. The Arrival Process (Walk Up vs. Drive Up)
When you arrive at 3000 Galvez Avenue, you will notice two different ways to receive food.
-
Walk Up Service: This is our standard distribution method for most neighbors. Simply walk up to the main entrance during our service hours (Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Our professional staff and volunteers will greet you and guide you through the line.
-
Handicap Drive Up: To ensure the safety and efficiency of our distribution, our drive up line is strictly reserved for individuals with a valid handicap placard or a handicap license plate. This allows us to provide extra assistance to those with mobility challenges while keeping the walk up line moving quickly for everyone else.
4. Receiving Your Groceries
Once you check in with your ID, you will receive a grocery box prepared by our team. We take pride in offering high quality, nutritious food. Depending on our daily inventory, your box will typically include fresh produce, meat, dairy, and shelf stable pantry staples. If you have pets at home, please let us know so we can include pet food if it is available.
5. Respect and Dignity
At Community Food Bank, we see ourselves as a community safety net. You will be treated with the respect and dignity you deserve. Our staff is here to ensure that no one in our community has to face hunger alone.
