Community Food Bank is a great place for your group to volunteer!

Corporate groups, schools, church groups, gardening clubs, bowling teams, whatever your group, we would love to host you all for a day of giving back.

To schedule a group (six or more people) volunteering experience, please contact our Executive Coordinator, Rev. Karen Harris, at karenharris@food-bank.org or 817-924-3333 ext 106.

Rev. Harris is happy to work with you to schedule a meaningful volunteer opportunity with your members.

If you have five or fewer volunteers, each of you should register by Individual Volunteering.

Tasks

  • Volunteers will assist in the warehouse packing food boxes, sorting donations, stocking donations, etc.
  • Volunteers may assist in distributing food boxes at the pick up door OR to people in their cars, usually people who are disabled or elderly.
  • Volunteers may also serve in the offices assisting families with registration or other needs.

Hours

  • Volunteering is available Monday – Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.
  • We prefer volunteers to come for a minimum of 4 hours a shift.

Group Registration

  • Group registration is ONLY available through contacting Rev. Karen Harris.
  • Rev. Harris will work with you to arrange your volunteering experience.

Checking In and Out

  • Volunteers sign in and sign out through the volunteer kiosk or by using your phone to scan the QR code at check in.
  • If you forget to check in or check out, please let us know ASAP.

Dress Code

  • Jeans, tees, and sneakers are recommended.
  • Always wear closed shoes. No sandals, crocs, or open toed shoes. Protect your toes!
  • No sagging pants, booty shorts, low cut shirts, half shirts, or tank tops, or inappropriate clothing.
  • Bring a sweatshirt or coat if it is cold. Our warehouse is not heated.

Parking

  • Park is available on the street or the lot across Galvez.
  • We recommend carpooling.
  • Leave valuables at home and lock your car!

Public Transportation

  • Trinity Metro Bus 54 drops off at Riverside and 4th.
  • Community Food Bank is one block west of Riverside and Galvez is one block south of 4th.
  • There is a sidewalk trail from the bus stop.

Liability Waiver

  • Each person must have a signed liability waiver on file. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • No one will be able to volunteer WITHOUT a signed liability waiver on file.
  • Download the Volunteer Liability Waiver.
  • Please print forms for each volunteer and bring them with you. This will make your sign in process go much faster.
  • We will have hard copies of the liability waiver if you are unable to print them ahead of time.

Age Restrictions

  • Volunteers should be 18 years old or older.
  • If you are hoping to bring teenagers, they must come with a parent or legal guardian, and you must contact us ahead of time.

Children

  • Do not bring children with you. They will not be allowed in the warehouse, and nobody else is available to watch them for you.

Valuables

  • Do not bring valuables with you.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car, even if you lock it.
  • Just leave valuables at home.
  • CFB is not responsible for your valuables and cannot guarantee the safety or security of anything you bring.

Lunch is Provided!

  • Our certified chef prepares a delicious and nutritious lunch for all staff and volunteers daily!
  • You will get a half hour break for lunch.
  • We cannot make special meals. If you have a food allergy or other reason you may not be able to eat what the chef prepares, please bring your own lunch.

Other

  • Smoking is not allowed on Community Food Bank property.
  • Cell phone use is not allowed in the warehouse.
  • Headphones or earbud use is not allowed in the warehouse for safety reasons. You need to be able to hear what is going on around you, and no, you cannot hear everything even with your headphones in.
  • Photographs of clients are not allowed. Please respect the privacy and dignity of the people visiting the food bank.
